Gachagua dares Ruto as he plots 2027 comeback after impeachment

Former Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again stirred political tension with a statement that has raised eyebrows across the country.

While speaking to residents in the Mount Kenya region, Gachagua reportedly said, “We will choose a leader for you to vote for,” as part of his address regarding the 2027 presidential election.

His message, shared widely on X on June 1, 2025, appears to signal a new phase in his political comeback after being impeached in October 2024.

Gachagua’s remarks are seen as part of his ongoing efforts to keep a strong hold on the Mount Kenya region, especially among the Kikuyu community, where he still enjoys notable influence.

Despite his removal from office on charges of corruption and promoting ethnic divisions, Gachagua has remained active politically, often appearing in public meetings and using social media to engage supporters.

He has not held back in criticizing President William Ruto, blaming him for betrayal and accusing him of using state machinery to block his political rallies and intimidate his allies.

His call for patience and unity among supporters points to behind-the-scenes talks aimed at selecting a single presidential candidate who can compete against Ruto.

According to Gachagua, making the candidate public too early would only lead to attacks and disruption from the government, which he claims is already targeting those seen as threats.

He also pointed to a strategy that depends on numbers and coordination rather than emotions.

Gachagua expressed confidence in winning future elections, stating that he has never lost a race before and believes that the Mount Kenya region, with its large number of voters, can shift the national balance if properly organized.

However, his comments have not gone down well with everyone. Some political leaders, such as MP Junet Mohamed, have accused Gachagua of inciting the public and creating conditions for unrest.

Junet went as far as calling for his arrest, pointing to remarks by Gachagua that warned of possible chaos if the 2027 polls are rigged.

These statements, according to Junet, are dangerous and could lead to violence if not addressed early. In response, Gachagua has dismissed those allegations, insisting that he stands for peace and democracy.

He denied promoting violence and instead turned the blame toward Ruto’s supporters, saying they are the ones trying to cause trouble by blocking his events and silencing opposition voices.

He maintains that his goal is to give the people of Mount Kenya a strong voice in national politics and protect their future from what he sees as a failed administration.
