The latest murder of businessman Kevin Omwenga on August 22 has thrown Kilimani into the spotlight again for the wrong reasons.
Omwenga was gunned down in a suspected gold deal gone sour, with the arrested businessmen Chris Obure and Robert Obodo Ouko currently in court on Monday August 24 to answer for charges.
Now dubbed the ‘murder capital’, Kilimani is swiftly becoming a time bomb waiting to explode due to the murders taking place, if not for other reasons.
Once known as one of the most affluent residences of Nairobi, the neighbourhood has been associated with dirty money, parties and deaths which have shocked the nation.
The estate was also once deemed as a hotspot for COVID-19 infections in the early stages of its arrival in Nairobi county, with the positive cases mostly emerging from residents in that area.
Below are some of the brutal murders in Kilimani:
The latest in a slew of murder cases, Kevin Omwenga was shot at his Galana suites apartment on Saturday August 22.
Sources revealed that the 28-year-old was shot in the chest. His body was moved to Montezuma funeral home.
Citizen TV obtained CCTV footage from the apartment detailing the preceding events in Omwenga’s murder.
The suspect, Robert Obodo Ouko confirmed in a statement he recorded to the police on Sunday August 23 that the gun went off while the two were scuffling over the gun.
Ouko, who works as businessman Chris Obure’s personal bodyguard, disclosed that he took the gun from his boss’ office at Senteu Plaza next to Galana suits where the shooting occurred.
He reportedly took the gun on Friday, August 21 at 6:00 a.m. and returned it a few minutes before midnight.
The scuffle that ensued between the two as Ouko attempted to get the pistol back saw the gun go off and pierce through the left of his (Omwenga’s) heart.

Reports indicate that she had blood oozing from her nose and that she appeared to have sustained neck injuries.
She appeared to have sustained back injuries and was reportedly holding a half-smoked stick of bhang. She had also been sexually abused.
Three people namely Claire Chepkoech Ngeno who is a co-suspect together with Shem Lwanga Mang’ula and Christine Awuor were arrested in connection with the murder.
The notorious Santonia Apartments in Kilimani first surfaced on February 12, 2012 when a former Kenya Power employee, Careen Chepchumba, was found dead.
Careen — who was a friend to former TV news anchor Louis Otieno — was found dead in her apartment in a case that remains unsolved even after a court ordered an inquest into the matter.
In 2018, the court declared that police botched the investigation and recommended that the Director of Public Prosecutions order an inquiry into the murder.
Then magistrate Charles Ondieki ruled that Careen’s death was not an accident.
“The cause of Careen’s death was not suicide. It was not accidental. The cause of death cannot be said to be undetermined. The cause was strangulation. These are inevitable findings,” he revealed.
It was the gruesome murder of Monica Kimani that sent shockwaves across the country.
The 29-year old’s body was found slaughtered and dumped in a bathtub in her apartment along Dennis Pritt road in Kilimani in 2018.
