Mandera Teenager Set on Fire by brothers dies

The 14-year-old boy who was yesterday rescued by the police after his two brothers set him ablaze succumbed to the burn injuries on Wednesday, October 27, while undergoing treatment at Mandera County Teaching and Referral hospital.

The boy had put up a brave fight for his life till 2 am when he passed away.

His distraught father Abdullah Hassan, who couldn’t come to terms with the loss of his beloved son, shed tears of pain and anguish as he reported his death to our officers.

The boy, a class seven pupil at  Kamor Primary School in Mandera was set ablaze by his elder brothers who feared that he might testify against one of them, accused of stealing a mobile phone.

Police officers had rushed to their house as it went up in flames the previous day and rescued the boy, who had sustained serious burns.

Detectives have however arrested the heartless brothers Ibrahim Ahmed Shaur, 20, and Yusuf Ahmed Shaur, 17 who had gone into hiding following the incident.

The officers reported that the two brothers are detained at Mandera Police station and will be charged with murder.

The boy’s death has also left officers who rescued him dumbfounded as they hoped their effort to rescue him would bear a fruit.
