Fans slam Terrence Creative for insensitive comment on Kisii leader’s 2027 presidential bid

Kenyan comedian and content creator Terrence Creative has found himself at the centre of online controversy after a post he made sparked outrage among Kenyans.

The popular comedian, known for his humorous skits and social media presence, faced intense backlash following a message he shared on Facebook that many interpreted as tribal.

The post revolved around an unnamed leader from the Kisii community who had announced plans to vie for the presidency in the 2027 general elections.

In his post, Terrence asked his fans to imagine a scenario where the Kisii leader had already won the presidency and to help him form a cabinet.

His exact words were, “Assume huyo mkisi amechukua kiti 2027, sasa nipangie hiyo Cabinet.”

This statement quickly caught the attention of netizens, who flooded his comment section with criticism. Many users accused him of fueling tribal divisions and using ethnicity as a tool for entertainment.

Some even demanded that he take down the post and issue a public apology.

The backlash spread rapidly across social media platforms, with screenshots of the deleted post circulating widely. For many, the issue was not just about humor gone wrong but about the sensitivity of tribal remarks in a country that has faced ethnic tensions in politics for decades.

Others argued that as a public figure with a large following, Terrence should have exercised more caution, especially when commenting on topics involving communities and political aspirations.

After hours of trending online and facing unrelenting criticism, Terrence Creative finally responded. He deleted the post and issued a public apology through his Facebook page.

In his apology, he expressed regret for the statement and clarified that he had no intention of disrespecting the Kisii community or its leaders.

He wrote, “Poleni saana wakisii wote. My apologies to the Kisii community in general about a previous post that had been posted on my Facebook page, naomba msamaha saana I didn’t mean any harm, nawapenda saana na nawaheshimu pamoja na viongozi wenyu.”

The apology sparked mixed reactions. Some of his fans appreciated his quick response and willingness to admit fault, saying it showed maturity.

Others, however, felt that his apology came only after he realized the magnitude of the backlash. They argued that as a seasoned comedian, he should have known the weight his words carried, especially in a country where tribal remarks can easily ignite tension.

Terrence has since remained silent on the issue beyond his apology, with many urging him to learn from the incident. The episode has reignited conversations around responsible use of social media and the fine line between comedy and offense.
