Just after his assassination along Ngong Road, the dark past of Kasipul Kabondo MP Charles Were has begun to resurface. Allegations are now emerging, painting a picture of a man who, behind the scenes, was ruthless when dealing with his political and personal enemies.
While many mourned his sudden death, others saw it as a moment of truth, as old wounds and secrets began to return to the spotlight. One of the most troubling cases connected to the late MP is the mysterious disappearance of a young woman named Dorothy Apondi back in 2010.
According to her family, Dorothy went missing while in the custody of the MP. She has never been found. Her family claims she had been promised a job in Meru by the legislator, something that seemed hopeful at the time. However, that promise was never fulfilled. Instead, Dorothy vanished, and the MP allegedly refused to explain where she had gone. Her brother recalls that the last time they saw her was when the MP picked her up under the pretense of taking her for employment. They made several reports to the police, but something strange happened. Each time they went to check on the case, the Occurrence Book entries had disappeared.
The first report they made at Oyugis Police Station simply vanished from the records. The family suspects powerful influence and interference in the justice system. This made it almost impossible for them to follow up or get any meaningful help from law enforcement.
Dorothy’s sister also shared her thoughts in a phone interview with NTV. She claimed that MP Were had been threatening her over the years, warning her not to talk about the incident. She strongly believes that he knew exactly what happened to Dorothy.
In her words, “My sister disappeared in his hands.” She also mentioned a tense moment when their mother directly confronted the MP, asking about Dorothy’s whereabouts. The MP allegedly laughed off the accusation and arrogantly responded, “You can’t take me anywhere,” which shocked and angered the family. The family also pointed out the MP’s close ties to powerful politicians of the time.
They claimed he had strong connections with the late Orwa Ojode, who died in the same helicopter crash that killed former Internal Security Minister George Saitoti. These connections, according to them, made it hard for anyone to question the MP or bring him to account.Dorothy’s mother sadly passed away without ever finding closure.
She died not knowing what happened to her daughter, something that still haunts the family to this day. Now, with the death of Charles Were, many fear the truth may never be known. But the resurfacing of these allegations has added a chilling layer to the late MP’s legacy. It raises fresh questions about the kind of man he truly was and what secrets he may have taken to the grave. For Dorothy’s family, the search for answers continues.
