A government official has found herself in deep trouble after being exposed for using fake academic documents to get a high-ranking job. Florence Njeri Njuguna, who served as the Fund Manager for the National Government-Constituency Development Fund in Lari Constituency, has been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.
According to the EACC, her arrest on May 6, 2025, followed detailed investigations that confirmed she used forged documents to land the job.The EACC revealed that Njuguna submitted a fake Bachelor’s degree certificate from Moi University and a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate from Kahuhia Girls High School.
These documents were used during her application process and were a key part of her being hired for the job. Without them, she would never have been considered for such a position.
The scam was discovered after whistleblowers raised concerns about the authenticity of her documents. This prompted the EACC to launch a formal investigation. During her time in office, Njuguna is believed to have earned a total of 2.2 million shillings in salaries.
All this money came from public funds, meaning taxpayers unknowingly paid someone who was not qualified for the job. The EACC has now handed over her case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who has already approved several charges. Njuguna will now face serious accusations in court, including forgery, presenting fake documents, and obtaining public money through lies.
This incident has raised a national conversation about the honesty of public servants in Kenya. Many Kenyans are wondering how someone with fake documents managed to go through the recruitment process without being caught earlier. It shows a serious failure in background checks and raises questions about how many more people might be in government jobs using similar fake papers.
It also points to a bigger issue in the public service system where personal connections and shortcuts sometimes take priority over merit and transparency.
The EACC has promised to continue hunting down public officials who lied their way into government jobs. They say that those found guilty will not only lose their positions but also face the full force of the law.
Her fall from grace serves as a warning to others who may be walking the same dishonest path.
