The investigation into the killing of the late Kasipul Member of Parliament, Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were, has taken a major step forward after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) approved murder charges against five suspects.
This is a big development in the case that has shocked the country and left the people of Homa Bay County demanding justice. Hon. Charles Were, who was an ODM member of parliament, was laid to rest last month, and many leaders and residents had called on the authorities to speed up the investigations and ensure those responsible are brought to book.
According to the latest reports, the DPP has finally given the green light to prosecute five individuals believed to be behind the gruesome murder.
These suspects are now expected to appear before the courts on Wednesday, 4th June 2025. The case will be heard at the Kibera and Milimani High Courts where they will face formal murder charges.
This move gives hope to many who feared that the case would be delayed or covered up like many others in the country.

Hon. Charles Were was remembered by many as a leader who was committed to serving the people of Kasipul. His sudden and violent death raised many questions and sparked fear and anger within the community.
Residents of Homa Bay, especially his supporters, have been waiting for answers and justice since the day he was killed. With the suspects now set to be charged in court, attention will turn to the judicial process and whether the case will be handled swiftly and fairly.
The DPP’s office has not yet released the full details of the suspects or the evidence gathered so far, but the fact that charges have been approved suggests that investigators believe they have enough proof to proceed.
The pain of losing a sitting MP in such a manner still lingers, and only justice will bring closure to the family, friends, and constituents of Hon. Charles Were.
