The High Court on Thursday slapped the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti with a four-month jail term for contempt of court.
According the court, Kinoti defied court order directing him to return guns confiscated from a Nairobi-based businessman Jimmy Wanjigi at his Muthaiga home in 2017.
In his June 21, 2019 ruling, Justice Chacha Mwita ordered Kinoti to return the seven firearms to Wanjigi but the latter defied the directive.
“The plaintiff’s rights were violated by the respondents. The actions of the respondents were unlawful and actuated by malice. The court grants orders that all firearms be returned to the plaintiff,” Justice Mwita ruled.
In September this year, The DCI boss failed to appear in court for sentencing after he was declared guilty of contempt following a suit filed by Wanjigi.
Justice Antony Mrima has now sentenced the DCI chief to four months in jail, without the option of fine.
Kinoti is required to report to Kamiti Maximum Prison within seven days from Thursday, November 18, 2021.
