Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua is facing serious challenges after his fallout with President William Ruto. He is now under investigation, with documents presented before the National Assembly’s Committee of Administration and Internal Security.
The documents outline three key issues that have placed Gachagua in a tough position, raising questions about his political future.
According to Friday’s People’s Daily publication, Gachagua is being investigated on accusations of ethnic profiling, hate speech, and making divisive remarks against the Kenya Kwanza government.

His recent speeches have been seen as an attack on the current administration, with claims that he is openly criticizing Ruto and his allies. His public remarks, where he constantly questions the government’s leadership and policies, have raised concerns within the ruling party.
One of the major issues highlighted in the documents is Gachagua’s habit of branding government officials as ‘yes men.’
He has accused many leaders within Kenya Kwanza of failing to stand up to Ruto, claiming that they blindly follow orders without questioning bad policies.
These comments have put him on a collision course with key figures in the government, who see his statements as an attempt to create division and weaken Ruto’s leadership.
Gachagua has also been rallying the Mt Kenya region against the government. He argues that the region is being sidelined and that Ruto’s administration is not delivering on the promises made during the campaign period. His push for Mt Kenya leaders to unite and speak with one voice has been viewed as a move to challenge Ruto’s control over the region.
The documents presented to parliament suggest that Gachagua’s recent activities are being closely monitored, as they could be interpreted as an attempt to create political instability.
Another major concern is Gachagua’s positioning in matters of political succession. He has openly stated that Mt Kenya must secure key leadership positions should anything happen to him politically. This statement has sparked speculation that he is planning his next move, possibly creating a new political alliance separate from Kenya Kwanza.
His frequent public statements about succession have fueled tension within the ruling party, with some interpreting them as an early campaign against Ruto’s re-election.
With these investigations ongoing, Gachagua finds himself in a difficult situation. His relationship with the government has deteriorated, and he now faces scrutiny from both political allies and state agencies. Whether he will survive this political storm or face further consequences remains to be seen.
