Questions continue to surround the road accident that led to the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo, as political leaders and members of the public seek clearer answers from investigators.
The latest concerns were raised after Democraticy for Citizens Party deputy leader Cleo Malala spoke to the media on Tuesday, December 16, expressing doubt about parts of the official explanation given so far.Malala questioned reports claiming that a bus carrying 65 passengers from Western Kenya was involved in the crash. He said it was difficult to understand how such a large number of people could be affected by the accident without any of them coming forward to speak publicly.
According to him, silence from the alleged passengers and their families raises serious questions that cannot be ignored.
He further noted that more than 72 hours after the tragic incident, authorities had not released a clear list of passengers who were on the bus at the time of the crash. Malala argued that this lack of information creates confusion and leaves room for speculation.
He insisted that families connected to the victims, as well as the wider public, deserve to know the truth.
The deputy party leader warned that delays and gaps in communication could weaken public trust in official investigations. He stressed that transparency is important, especially in cases involving well known public figures. Malala said that providing clear details about who was involved would help restore confidence and ensure that the matter is handled openly and fairly.
His remarks came just hours after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations announced that it had launched comprehensive investigations into the circumstances surrounding Jirongo’s death. According to the DCI, the accident involved a head on collision between a bus and the vehicle carrying the former legislator.
Investigators stated that the force of the impact pushed Jirongo’s vehicle about 25 metres from the point of collision, while the bus stopped roughly 50 metres away. They also confirmed that CCTV footage from Eagol Petrol Station near the accident scene had been recovered and reviewed.

Authorities say this footage is expected to play an important role in establishing what exactly happened.
