Caleb Amisi slams government over dramatic arrests and public chaos

Caleb Amisi, the Saboti Member of Parliament, has spoken out against the Kenya Kwanza government, accusing it of using unnecessary drama during the arrests of high-profile individuals.

On Tuesday, Amisi questioned why government officials choose to create public shows instead of following simple legal procedures. According to him, there is no need for all the spectacle seen during these arrests, especially when the law provides a clear and calm way to handle such matters.

He said that if someone is suspected of wrongdoing, the right step would be to summon them to a police station. If they fail to appear, then the police should go to their home and arrest them quietly.

Creating dramatic scenes in public, he said, is not only pointless but also fuels fear and political tension.

Amisi’s remarks come after recent events at the Milimani Law Courts where authorities carried out high-profile arrests in full view of the public. He believes these acts by law enforcement do not promote justice but instead spread panic and push a political agenda.

He further challenged the government to stop acting outside the law and urged any official under investigation to step down if they cannot comply with legal procedures.

Amisi warned that the administration must decide whether to stick to the rule of law or leave office altogether. His concerns mirror those of many other political leaders and observers who are starting to question the motive behind these widely publicized arrests.

Many believe that the arrests are being used as a tool to intimidate opponents instead of ensuring fair trials. In recent weeks, law enforcement has been seen using large convoys and heavily armed officers to arrest suspects, making sure that the entire public watches the process unfold. Critics argue that this method is more about show than justice.

Just hours before Amisi made his statement, a chaotic scene took place at Milimani Law Courts. Several individuals, thought to be close allies of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, were violently taken away by unknown men.

Natembeya and his legal team had gone to court over a KSh 1.4 billion corruption case, but what followed was far from orderly. Videos shared online showed a man being pushed into a car while others struggled to stop the police from making further arrests.

Such actions have sparked even more criticism, with many asking whether this is really about justice or just political drama. There have been similar arrests in the past, and now more leaders are coming forward to call for an end to these public spectacles.

They say such arrests damage the image of law enforcement and make the justice system look biased.

According to them, the law should be respected and followed without turning it into a public show meant to score political points.
