Boyd Were steals the show at Father’s Funeral with emotional tribute and hints at political future

According to reports by Tuko News, the funeral of the late Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Ong’ondo Were, became more than just a moment of mourning it turned into a powerful and emotional scene that captured the hearts of many in Kendu Bay.

The most unforgettable part of the event was when his son, Boyd Were, stood tall on top of a moving vehicle and gave a passionate tribute that has since gone viral.

The video shows Boyd, visibly emotional yet full of energy, standing beside Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga as the funeral convoy moved slowly through the town. Crowds gathered on both sides of the road to witness the final journey of a man they respected deeply.

Leading the funeral procession was a luxurious white Range Rover limousine hearse, said to have cost KSh 500,000 per day. It was a symbol not just of mourning but also of the high regard in which Charles Were was held.

The people of Kendu Bay lined the roads, waving and chanting, showing just how much they valued their fallen leader. Amid this emotional atmosphere, Boyd captured everyone’s attention when he took the microphone and shouted, “Kendu Bay hoyee! ODM, we are ready.”

The crowd responded with loud cheers. Though he was grieving, Boyd’s message carried the energy of someone who might soon be stepping into politics himself.

During his tribute, Boyd spoke from the heart. He described his father as his hero, a man who gave everything to his family and community. He thanked him for teaching life lessons about kindness, hard work, and staying true to oneself. He said that his father never looked for praise or fame but worked quietly to make sure his family had a good life.

He said, “Though you’re no longer here, your spirit lives on in every lesson you taught and every memory we shared.”

It was clear that Charles Were was more than just a politician he was a loved father, a humble leader, and a role model to many.

His funeral reflected that, and Boyd’s powerful tribute has now caused conversations about the future of the Kasipul seat. Many are already anticipating whether the young Were will carry on his father’s legacy in the Orange Democratic Movement.

The energy and connection Boyd displayed during the funeral show that the community is already looking at him with new eyes. His emotional message, combined with the crowd’s reaction, could be the beginning of a new chapter in the Were family’s political story.
