Popular media personality Betty Kyallo on Saturday May 30 shocked her fans after she announced that she was leaving K24 TV- under MediaMax Networks.

The bubbly news anchor joined the Kenyatta family owned media house on September 20, 2018 after her surprise exit from KTN just months prior
“I really appreciate you all. It is now time for me to say goodbye here on K24 TV. Thank you so much for all the support, I appreciate you, God bless you and I love you,” she stated after her last show at K24.

Prior to the start of her show she put up a message on her Instagram page that left fans in limbo.

“Hello from the other side, not sure about tomorrow so watch today,” read her statement in part.

She joined MediaMax Networks at a time when they had lost key figures including anchor Richard Kagoe to BBC as well as Michelle Morgan who resigned a week prior to Betty joining, outlining the need to pursue her personal interests.

The news of Betty’s exit took most social media users by surprise, however some hinted that it was coming in the wake of Mediamax’s announcement that it would terminate some employees owing to the decline in revenue as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Other news indicated that KTN, owned by the Standard Media Group had bought some of the programs on K24 TV, rendering the services of majority of the staff redundant.

Betty emerged as the winner of the 2017 Social Media Awards as Media Personality of the Year award as well as being voted as Journalist of the Year by Kenyans on Twitter a year later in the KOT 2018 Awards. To do so, she had to beat opposition from KTN News reporter Timothy Otieno, The Star Digital Editor Oliver Mathenge and digital journalist Marvin Gakuyi.
“We won again! Thank you to all my people on Twitter who voted for me as Journalist Of the Year.”

“Much gratitude to all of you beloved! And of course much respect to all the other worthy contenders Timothy Otieno, Oliver Mathenge and digital journalist Marvin Gakunyi. I salute you. Thanks, Twitter!” she stated.

Following her departure, she switched focus to her YouTube channel dubbed Betty Kyallo Lately, which she launched on May 19 and has since amassed over 29.7K subscribers.

She hinted that she would be using the platform for her next project.
“If we meet again, great. If not, you know how you can find me on all my social media platforms, Facebook, Instagram and of course my YouTube channel. I’m going to be doing great things there,” she announced.

She is also looking to relocate her salon business ‘Flair By Betty’ to a larger space. It is currently located alongside Lenana Road within the FCB Mirhab building.
