A Spanish Researcher and Author claims that baldness is a’ perfect predictor’ of COVID-19 severity.

Professor Carlos Wambier of Brown University conducted two studies in Spain, and the research found out that a very high number of men with baldness were hospitalized from severe symptoms of Coronavirus.

Professor Wambier told the Telegraph: “We really think that baldness is a perfect predictor of severity.”

The study, which was published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, found 79% of the 122 male coronavirus patients in Madrid hospitals were bald.

The male sex-hormones (androgens) may contribute to hair-loss and increase the ability of the new novel coronavirus to attack cells, scientists have argued.Scientists believe that hormone suppressing drugs could possibly slow coronavirus progress and help victims to recover.

Professor Wambier in a phone interview with the Telegraph added: ‘We think androgens or male hormones are definitely the gateway for the virus to enter our cells.’

Other scientists have however urged caution , with Prostate Cancer UK head of policy Karen Stalbow telling Telegraph that ‘much more evidence is needed’ before such drugs could be used for coronavirus treatment.
