Edwin Sifuna, the Secretary General of ODM and current Nairobi Senator, has made it very clear that he will leave the party if it decides to support President William Ruto in the 2027 general election.
Speaking in Saboti Constituency during an event to support local groups, Sifuna told the crowd that he cannot and will not be part of a political move that links ODM to Kenya Kwanza.
He explained that such a move would go against the values and beliefs that ODM has always stood for.
Sifuna said he would rather step aside respectfully than join a partnership he does not believe in.Sifuna stressed that his loyalty is to the principles of the party and the expectations of the people who voted for ODM.
He warned that if ODM chooses to back Ruto in 2027, he will walk away and not look back.
He also spoke of the possibility of forming a new political direction, which he described as a “third force.” This new movement, he said, could give Kenyans a fresh choice if both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio fail to deliver real change.
According to Sifuna, the country is full of young leaders and citizens who are ready for a different kind of leadership—one that focuses on service to the people, not personal deals and power sharing.
His strong statement comes at a time when many are watching the political landscape closely.
With alliances shifting and leaders making new plans ahead of 2027, Sifuna’s words send a clear message to the ODM leadership. He is not alone in this stand. Saboti MP Caleb Amisi also told the people that he will not remain in the party if it decides to support President Ruto.
He said his loyalty lies with the people and the original ideas that ODM was built on.
He added that politicians should not chase positions or favors at the expense of the voters.
Both Sifuna and Amisi spoke during an economic empowerment event in Saboti, where they helped raise over Ksh 4 million to support local women and youth groups.
The event, which was well attended, also gave them a platform to share their firm political positions.
It is clear that ODM will face tough decisions, and Sifuna has already shown that he will not compromise on what he believes in.
