Adani whistle-blower Nelson Amenya vows not to return home, says threats to his life remain real

Nelson Amenya has made it clear that returning to Kenya is not an option for him at the moment, as his safety remains a serious concern.

The whistle-blower, who is now living in France, spoke during an interview on the Iko Nini podcast on September 17, 2025, where he explained that the threats against his life have only grown since he exposed details about the controversial Adani takeover.

He admitted that he has been forced to live in constant fear, always watching over his shoulder, and has accepted that staying away from Kenya is the only way to protect himself.

Amenya is currently pursuing his studies in France, but even with the physical distance, the threats continue to reach him. He shared that close friends back in Kenya regularly provide him with updates on the security situation, and according to their reports, the environment remains unsafe.

Some of these friends, who are connected to security agencies, have warned him to completely disappear from the public eye. He was strongly advised to stop posting online, change his phone, and keep his profile as low as possible because those targeting him had allegedly already laid out plans to harm him.

According to Amenya, these warnings are not baseless. He revealed that he has already received numerous threats, and from the tone and persistence of these threats, he is convinced that the danger is real.

At one point, he was even informed that senior figures had held meetings where strategies to deal with him were openly discussed.

The knowledge that powerful individuals are working against him has made the situation much more dangerous and left him with no choice but to remain in hiding abroad.

He recalled one particular warning from a close friend who appeared deeply worried about his safety. The friend insisted that he should disappear completely, explaining that plans had already been made to harm him.

The urgency in that message, Amenya said, convinced him that his situation was not only serious but also ongoing.

These experiences have left him cautious and unwilling to take any chances. The threats have not stopped.

Amenya disclosed that as recently as last month, he was still receiving fresh warnings. This, he explained, proves that even if things seem to calm down from the outside, the real danger is far from over.

He emphasized that he has no plans to return to Kenya anytime soon, because doing so would mean exposing himself to people who are determined to silence him.

For now, Amenya believes the best decision is to remain in France and continue keeping his guard up. He admitted that he does not know how long this situation will last, but he is certain it will take time before the threats against him disappear. Until then, he insists that vigilance and distance from Kenya are his only means of survival.
