Gachagua pledges to build mausoleum at late MP Johana Ng’eno’s grave

The family of former Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno is set to receive support from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has pledged to fund the construction of a mausoleum at the late lawmaker’s gravesite in Mogondo, Narok County.

Gachagua made the commitment on Friday, August 21, when he visited Ng’eno’s family to pay his respects and honour his late friend. He said the proposed mausoleum would serve as a lasting memorial to the former legislator, whom he described as a close friend.

“I will help in the construction of a mausoleum in remembrance of Johana Ng’eno. I will build it because this leader resting here was my very good friend,” Gachagua said.

His announcement followed an appeal from Ng’eno’s mother, Mary Temas, who asked him to help put up a structure that would provide shelter over her son’s grave.

According to Temas, the family had previously approached other leaders for assistance, but no structure had been built despite five months having passed since Ng’eno was buried in March.

Gachagua responded by saying he would work together with the family to ensure the project is completed. He said he would meet the cost of construction and directed that designers prepare a proposal that would reflect the wishes of Ng’eno’s mother.

He also said the construction should begin without unnecessary delays once the design and other preparations were completed.

A representative of the family said relatives would first meet to discuss the preferred design and establish the expected cost of the project.

The family would then present the details to Gachagua for consideration before the construction begins.

During his visit, Gachagua accompanied Ng’eno’s mother to the gravesite, where he laid a wreath in honour of the former MP.

The visit was also an opportunity for him to offer support to the family following the death of the former lawmaker.

Gachagua said he would continue supporting Ng’eno’s mother as a friend of her late son. He noted that the loss had left her facing difficulties, including meeting some of her basic needs such as the cost of medication.

Ng’eno died in February following a helicopter crash. His death came as a shock to his family, friends and political supporters, with leaders from different parts of the country joining mourners during his burial in March.

Gachagua also raised concerns over what he described as promises made to Ng’eno’s mother by President William Ruto during the former MP’s burial.

He claimed that some of the commitments had not been fulfilled.

The former Deputy President had previously spoken to Temas by phone and promised to meet her in person to discuss his concerns about the circumstances surrounding her son’s death. His latest visit to Mogondo also came as he continued with political activities in the Emurua Dikirr area.

Gachagua was scheduled to address residents at Mogondor Centre as part of a rally organised by the Democracy for Citizens Party, where he has been carrying out political activities.

Heavy security was deployed around the centre ahead of the rally, with police officers stationed in the area as supporters gathered for the event.

Gachagua’s visit comes at a time when political activity has increased in parts of the country. It also follows concerns over violence reported at a recent DCP rally in Nakuru County.

Despite the political setting surrounding his visit, Gachagua’s main commitment to the Ng’eno family was focused on honouring his late friend and helping provide a permanent structure at his gravesite.

The proposed mausoleum will now depend on the family’s agreement on the design and the preparation of cost estimates.

Once those details are completed, Gachagua has said he is ready to finance the construction and work with the family to see the project through.
