Questions surrounding the use of public funds in government communication activities have emerged after blogger Cyprian Nyakundi made a fresh set of allegations targeting senior state officials and a communication network he claims operates from within government circles.
Through several posts published on X, Nyakundi alleged that a group involved in managing online communication and public messaging receives significant funding every month.
He claimed that the amount spent on the operation is close to KSh30 million and argued that the public deserves to know how the money is utilised.
The blogger suggested that there is a major gap between the amount allegedly allocated to the operation and what some individuals working within it reportedly receive.
According to his claims, several members of the network earn relatively small payments despite the large sums said to be spent on the programme each month.
His remarks have renewed debate over transparency in government spending, particularly in areas related to communication and digital engagement. Nyakundi argued that citizens should be informed about the purpose of such expenditure and whether it delivers measurable value to the public.
The blogger further linked the alleged operation to the Office of the President, raising concerns about the role of state institutions in online communication campaigns.
He questioned whether government offices should be associated with activities that critics may view as political messaging rather than official public communication.
Nyakundi also named Nge’ndo Murugu in his posts, claiming that Murugu is responsible for overseeing the communication team. He alleged that some individuals associated with the network have raised complaints regarding their treatment within the group.
The claims, however, were made through social media posts and had not been independently verified.
The blogger called for the publication of detailed records relating to the alleged operation. He said information such as staffing details, contracts, expenditure reports, payment records and overall budgets should be released to the public.
According to him, such disclosures would help answer questions that have been raised regarding accountability.
The latest claims add to an ongoing public exchange involving Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, who has recently been the subject of several allegations made by Nyakundi.
The blogger has continued to defend his statements and has publicly maintained that he is prepared to stand by them.
He further stated that any legal challenge against his claims would provide an avenue for documents and records to be examined in court, allowing the matters he has raised to be subjected to scrutiny.
The allegations have since attracted attention on social media, where users continue to debate the issues raised. Some have called for official clarification from the government, while others have urged restraint until evidence is presented and independently verified.
