A bodyguard attached to Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs has reportedly been linked to the fatal shooting of a youth organiser in Kariokor, Nairobi, in an incident that has sparked fresh questions over the use of firearms by security personnel.
According to The Standard, the victim, identified as Cecil Ouma, had been mobilised to attend a youth empowerment forum that was attended by the Principal Secretary before the shooting occurred.
Reports indicate that Ouma was shot in the chest during the incident. He was rushed to Park Road Nursing Home for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Family members claim Ouma may have bled to death while being transported to hospital, saying the injuries he sustained were severe.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, with investigators expected to establish what led to the fatal confrontation and whether the firearm was discharged lawfully.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Ouma’s family and friends, who are demanding a thorough, transparent and independent investigation into the killing.
The reported involvement of a bodyguard attached to a senior government official has also intensified calls for accountability, with Kenyans urging authorities to ensure that anyone found responsible faces the full force of the law, regardless of their position or connections.
Police are expected to continue investigations as detectives piece together witness accounts and forensic evidence to determine exactly what transpired before the fatal shooting.
The Principal Secretary had not publicly commented on the incident at the time of publication, while investigators are yet to release a comprehensive report on the circumstances surrounding Ouma’s death.
