Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has once again ignited fierce political debate, this time with a stinging critique that many see as the peak of his long-running feud with President William Ruto.In the wake of shocking CCTV footage showing police officers brutally assaulting young men at a pool hall in Nandi Hills on January 10, Sifuna took to social media to deliver what critics are calling his latest attack on Ruto.
The outspoken leader condemned the incident as a glaring sign of deepening state impunity under the current administration.
He argued that while both democratic and dictatorial regimes can provide economic handouts and business opportunities to youth, only true democrats protect fundamental freedoms.
Sifuna pointed out the irony that the assaulted venue was reportedly linked to a government-funded youth empowerment project, highlighting what he described as a dangerous contradiction, offering seed capital with one hand while crushing rights with the other.

His remarks have drawn sharp reactions, with supporters praising his consistency in holding power accountable amid rising concerns over police brutality.
Detractors, however, accuse him of fixation on the President, claiming his constant attacks are now overshadowing party unity ahead of 2027.
Amid growing calls for accountability and an Independent Policing Oversight Authority probe, Sifuna’s intervention has amplified national outrage and reinforced his position as one of Ruto’s most vocal critics in the opposition ranks.
