Kenya’s Church leaders have delivered one of their most damning assessments of President William Ruto’s government, accusing the administration of systematic failures that have plunged the nation into deepening turmoil.
In an unprecedented statement released yesterday, clerics warned that Kenya has become “a devastated nation” teetering on the brink of collapse.
The religious leaders painted a grim picture of a country beset by corruption, electoral manipulation, and economic despair that has left citizens angry and desperate.
The Church’s critique centers on three critical areas of governmental failure.
First, they cite the collapse of governance, pointing to what they describe as a compromised Parliament that has failed in its oversight duties.
The clerics accuse legislators of passing unjust laws, eroding democratic principles, and enabling election manipulation.

Economic hardship forms the second pillar of their condemnation. Church leaders highlighted the crushing poverty affecting ordinary Kenyans, noting unbearable living costs, widespread company closures, mass unemployment, diminishing purchasing power, and the systematic collapse of small businesses across the country.
The third major concern relates to the failure of essential services. The Church points to a broken education system, starved of adequate funding, a failing tertiary sector, and a corruption-ridden Social Health Authority that has left citizens vulnerable.
In their statement, NCCK Chairman Rev. Elijah Otwori Agola, addressing the press alongside other church leaders in Limuru, emphasized the severity of the situation.
The clerics expressed that the despair and frustration gripping Kenyans has created a volatile atmosphere, warning that public anger resembles “a ticking time bomb.”
The statement represents a significant escalation in tensions between religious institutions and the government.
Church leaders, traditionally influential voices in Kenyan society, are now calling for immediate action to address what they characterize as a betrayal of the youth and the nation’s promise.
The government has yet to respond to these serious allegations.
