Nelson Amenya fires back at ODM leader Raila Odinga over Adani-JKIA deal claims

Whistleblower Nelson Amenya has once again spoken out strongly against the controversial Adani-JKIA airport deal after coming under fire from Raila.

Raila had accused those opposing the project of being driven by personal interest in the tender and of supporting demonstrations to block the agreement. Amenya, however, dismissed those remarks as empty and misleading, insisting that his opposition has always been based on facts and public interest rather than personal gain.

Through a post on X, Amenya made it clear that he has never received payment from anyone to expose the deal, saying his work has been guided only by the desire to protect the country from questionable contracts.

He emphasized that every concern he previously raised about the deal has already been proven accurate.

According to him, the most glaring question is why the government never allowed a transparent and open tendering process if the deal was truly beneficial to the country. He argued that the lack of such a process points to deeper issues that Kenyans should not ignore.

Amenya described the recent criticism as nothing more than a smokescreen meant to divert attention and pave the way for the controversial deal to be revived without addressing corruption concerns. In his words, if the leaders pushing for the project were genuinely committed to improving the airport, then they should have no problem going through a fair and competitive process that would allow all qualified bidders to present their proposals openly.

He also highlighted the strong performance of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, pointing out that it already ranks among the most profitable airports on the African continent.

In his view, this success shows that the airport could attract better offers and stronger partnerships if the process was conducted transparently.

He suggested that the push behind the deal is less about modernizing the facility and more about protecting private interests that have little to do with public good.

His remarks also carried a personal edge as he directed sharp words at the ODM leader, calling on him to reconsider his priorities at his advanced age. Amenya told him to spend his remaining years with family instead of pushing deals that he believes will harm the country’s future.

He went further by branding the leader as the “conman of the century,” underlining the bitterness of his response.

The Adani-JKIA deal has been a point of heated debate in Kenyan politics since Amenya first exposed what he described as secretive agreements and weak oversight.

His latest statements add another layer to the controversy, showing that the fight over the airport’s future is far from over and that questions of transparency and accountability will continue to shape the conversation.
