Salasya mocks MPs as Ruto and Raila target CDF and KeRRA

Peter Salasya has once again turned his sharp tongue towards his fellow legislators, this time mocking them over President William Ruto and Raila Odinga’s intensified criticism of parliament.

The Mumias East MP said that the two leaders were now targeting key development funds managed by Members of Parliament, particularly the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).

In a statement released on his official X account on the night of Monday, August 18, 2025, Salasya, known for his blunt and often humorous remarks, shared his thoughts using laughter emojis to underline his point.

He argued that MPs and Senators had dug their own political graves by siding with Ruto and Raila in pushing out former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, only to now face humiliation.

According to him, the dismantling of CDF and KeRRA is a direct consequence of their political choices, and he believes the irony should not be lost on them.

“I am just laughing after MPs and senators sent Gachagua home. The reward for them is for Ruto and Raila managing to dismantle CDF, which takes development to their constituencies, and dismantling KeRRA, which builds roads and maintains them in their constituencies, and lastly calling them corrupt and useless. When gods want to bring you down, they make you arrogant, unremorseful, and forgetful,” Salasya stated.

The first-term legislator, elected under the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), went further to accuse the President and Raila of consistently branding lawmakers as corrupt and irrelevant.

He insisted that despite MPs and Senators playing an instrumental role in recent political realignments, they had been abandoned and belittled.

He cheekily remarked that the alienation of lawmakers from Ruto’s side would only serve to benefit him politically, hinting at his future ambitions for higher office.

“MPs and senators were very instrumental to Ruto and Raila, but because of their arrogance, they have lost them again. President Ruto and Raila call them corrupt again and again. You are on the right track. I want you to lose support of these MPs and senators to make 2027 easy for me as the incoming 6th,” Salasya added, making reference to the presidency.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi also joined the debate, but with a more serious tone. In a statement shared on his own X account, Amisi accused President Ruto of engaging in diversionary politics.

He argued that the constant attacks on parliament were a tactic to distract Kenyans from pressing national issues and the government’s own shortcomings.

“The onslaught on parliament is a diversionary tactic. Such tricks when you are politically cornered are as old as the oldest profession,” Amisi noted, suggesting that the President was under pressure and resorting to scapegoating MPs.

Amisi’s remarks followed Ruto’s fresh warning to MPs against corruption during his address on Monday, August 18, 2025.

The President reiterated that any lawmaker caught giving or receiving bribes tied to parliamentary processes would face arrest.

His warning came after similar remarks at the 2025 Devolution Conference in Homa Bay, where he had taken aim at legislators over allegations of widespread corruption.

The growing tension between the executive and the legislature now threatens to further complicate relations ahead of the 2027 elections, as MPs feel increasingly attacked and undermined.
