Kilifi plunges into chaos as Mung’aro orders violent ejection of Mwaro

Drama broke out at the Kilifi County Deputy Governor’s office when County Secretary Martin Mwaro was thrown out by county officials.

The incident happened shortly after Governor Gideon Mung’aro fired Mwaro on April 3. Tensions were high as Mwaro attempted to enter the office, only to find himself barred at the gate by angry staff who no longer recognized him as a county official.

A video shared online captured the heated exchange that took place between Mwaro’s security team and county officials. The video showed a chaotic scene, with shouting and pushing as Mwaro’s security team tried to shield him from the aggressive crowd.

One of his bodyguards was seen pulling out a gun in an attempt to protect Mwaro, which nearly led to a physical confrontation. The situation quickly escalated as county officials shouted, “Get out of here, get out of here,” while forcing Mwaro through the gate and into his vehicle.

The confrontation did not end there. Even after Mwaro was inside the car, several officials followed him out and warned him not to step back into the office.

Police officers who had been called to the scene took control by shutting the gate behind Mwaro and asking one of his staff members to remain outside. The staff member was seen making several phone calls, possibly trying to seek clarification or assistance.

Mwaro insisted he still had the right to access the office, saying he had a court order in his favor. He held a court injunction issued by Lady Justice Mbaru Monica, which stopped the county from appointing anyone else to the County Secretary position until the case was heard on May 5.

The judge’s ruling was clear that no one should be nominated or take over the role until the court made a final decision. The ruling also warned that disobeying the order could lead to legal consequences.

Despite this, Governor Mung’aro went ahead and appointed Catherine Kenga, who was already serving as the CEC for Public Works, Roads, and Transport, as the Acting County Secretary for six months.

This move raised questions about whether the county government was ignoring the court’s instructions.Mwaro’s team said that county officials had gone further by changing the office locks to make sure he could not enter.

Governor Mung’aro defended the decision to remove Mwaro, saying the move was necessary to promote better governance, integrity, and accountability within the county.

The situation now places the county leadership at odds with the judiciary, as both sides hold firm to their positions. The court’s final decision in May is expected to determine whether Mwaro will return to office or if the governor’s actions will stand.
