MPs have begun collecting signatures for an impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua

The motion is based on allegations of constitutional violations, gross misconduct, and abuse of office. Specific complaints include making divisive statements, showing favoritism towards certain regions, and breaching the Official Secrets Act. According to the Kenyan Constitution, the impeachment process requires signatures from at least a third of all MPs (117 out of 349) to proceed. If the motion is successful, it will lead to investigations by a Senate committee, followed by a Senate vote where a two-thirds majority is needed for removal from office.
