“Ruto has unashamedly betrayed those who put him in power” Mutahi Kahiga

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has finally spoken following President William Ruto’s decision to remove former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allies from key positions in the National Assembly committees.

This move is seen as part of a wider purge against leaders perceived to be close to Gachagua, signaling a shift in power dynamics within the ruling Kenya Kwanza government.

Kahiga has openly criticized Ruto, accusing him of betraying the very people who helped him ascend to power in the 2022 elections.

In a statement reported by the Saturday edition of People Daily, Kahiga did not hold back in expressing his disappointment. He made it clear that this outcome was not surprising to them and that those affected were already prepared for such treatment.

According to him, no one is complaining because they expected it. He further stated that this was the price they had to pay for standing with the people.

He was categorical that two years into his presidency, Ruto had shamelessly turned against his key supporters. This statement reflects the growing discontent among a section of Mt Kenya leaders who feel sidelined despite their role in delivering votes for Ruto.

The political perception of Mt Kenya has been shifting rapidly, with increasing opposition against Ruto’s administration. The region, which was a stronghold for Kenya Kwanza in 2022, is now showing signs of rebellion as leaders and residents voice their frustrations over unfulfilled promises and what they perceive as betrayal.

The purge against Gachagua’s allies is being interpreted as an effort to weaken his influence in the region, further fueling tensions within the government.

Kahiga’s remarks add to the growing narrative that Ruto is losing support in Mt Kenya. Many leaders from the region have openly expressed their dissatisfaction with how the government is handling regional concerns, especially in terms of development and resource allocation.

The move to remove Gachagua’s allies from key parliamentary positions is seen as an attempt to sideline him politically, despite his crucial role in securing votes for Ruto.

With the region increasingly rallying its people against the Kenya Kwanza government, Ruto’s administration faces a tough challenge in maintaining its grip. The discontent is not only among politicians but also among the residents who feel that the promises made during the campaign period have not been fulfilled.

The coming months will likely determine whether Ruto can salvage his support in Mt Kenya or if the growing dissatisfaction will turn into a full-blown political rebellion.
