Fresh evidence has emerged contradicting President William Ruto’s claim that former Attorney General Justin Muturi was incompetent. The new findings show that Muturi had a strong record of legal victories that benefited the government.
Documents from Nairobi Leo reveal that during his time in office, Muturi’s legal team won 1,503 out of 1,588 cases, achieving an impressive 94.7% success rate.
These victories helped protect taxpayers from losing Ksh17.5 billion. This information comes at a time when tensions between the President and his former legal advisor are rising.
Ruto’s recent public statements dismissing Muturi’s performance now appear questionable in light of these new statistics.
Legal experts have expressed shock at the difference between Ruto’s remarks and the proven success of Muturi’s legal team. Prof. Wambui Mwangi, a well-known constitutional expert, noted that maintaining such a high success rate in complex cases was a sign of strong leadership and legal expertise.
Among the major legal victories under Muturi’s tenure were constitutional challenges, commercial disputes worth billions, and sensitive human rights cases. The Ksh17.5 billion that his office helped protect represents a significant amount that could have been lost if these cases had gone the other way.
To put it in perspective, that amount is nearly 60% of Nairobi County’s yearly budget. It could also have been used to build hundreds of healthcare centers or finance major infrastructure projects.

The sudden release of these statistics has raised questions about the real reasons behind Ruto’s criticism. Some political analysts believe the numbers were made public to counter the President’s narrative.
Dr. James Okombo from Strathmore University observed that the timing of these revelations suggests an attempt to defend Muturi against political attacks. Meanwhile, Muturi’s supporters have used the data to argue that he was one of the most effective Attorney Generals in Kenya’s history.
Constitutional lawyer Njeri Kariuki emphasized that the numbers speak louder than political statements and show that Muturi led one of the most successful periods for the AG’s office.
This controversy has sparked wider debates on whether Ruto’s criticism of Muturi was based on genuine concerns about governance or if there were hidden political motives.
The situation could expose deeper divisions within Ruto’s administration, with potential consequences for its stability and credibility.
Political and legal observers are now closely watching how the President will respond to these strong counterarguments.
The ongoing dispute is a reminder of the difficult balance between politics and professional governance in Kenya’s evolving democracy.
